Hey there, fellow soul-aligned creator,
I used to think being "good" at working for myself meant having everything perfect all the time. I thought I had to be Erica the yoga teacher, Erica the designer, and Erica the business mentor - always calm, always getting things done, always "on."
But as I've grown, I'm learning something new. The messy, chaotic parts of being creative aren't bad things to hide. They're actually what makes our work special and meaningful.
I started hearing from other creative people I work with:
✿ "This is harder than I thought. Maybe I don't want people to see my work after all."
✿ "I should just give up."
✿ "I need to wait until my work is perfect before showing anyone."
Do these sound familiar? I realized these worries were just like my own doubtful thoughts and struggles.
That's when I knew I needed to change how I teach and create, and how I show up for myself and for you. I realized I needed to build a way of working that accepts the messy reality of being creative, not some perfect ideal version.
Because let's face it, the digital product space is ever-changing. Our priorities shift. And what we need from our businesses and our creative practices needs to be adaptable as we move into new seasons of life.
So, I've restructured. I built ways to align with the real journey of a spiritual solopreneur - chaos, doubts, and all.
If you're feeling stressed, always trying to be perfect but not feeling like you're growing or enjoying your work, remember this: Your chaos is your strength. Your doubts can open new doors. Your struggles are part of your story.
We're all in this together, figuring out this messy creative life. And I want you to know - it's okay to not have everything figured out. It's okay to take small steps. It's okay for your work to change as you change.
What I'm Watching
I'm someone who approaches October with such fervor that I already have my Halloween decorations out on September 13. Friday night I watched A Portrait of A Lady on Fire - a film with a color palette after my own heart. It's super tender and passionate, with a haunting quality that's still sitting with me days later.
What I'm Celebrating in TV
The Golden Bachelorette has surprisingly opened my heart back up to the dating process. Watching these golden bachelors' love stories has been 100x more compelling than younger seasons, showing how love can blossom at any age. It's even making me reconsider getting back on the dating apps (which will make my coach Lauren Zander very happy!).
Speaking of which, Lauren and I have been working on a new newsletter behind the scenes, and it's almost ready for launch. If you want to be one of the first to follow along and witness my own love story unfold, subscribe here. Trust me, you won't want to miss our rebellious and playful approach to dating!
Weekly Challenge
This week, I challenge you to embrace one aspect of your creative chaos. Share a half-finished project. Admit to a struggle you've been hiding. Whatever it is, let it be seen. Let it be honored. Let it be the catalyst for your next breakthrough.
Four Tips to Remember when Navitaging Emotional Chaos in the Creative Process:
- Normalize Imperfection: Share your "ugly baby" ideas.
- Practice Self-Compassion: Separate your worth from your work's current state.
- Reframe "Failures": View setbacks as learning opportunities.
- Commit to Continuous Improvement: Embrace an experimental approach.
Use these ideas to make your messy process work for you, not against you.
Until next Sunday, embrace your creative chaos,
Erica
P.S. I'm curious: How are you letting your work's messy, uncomfortable parts shine through this week? Hit reply and let me know. I'm here to support your journey, just as I'm navigating my own messy, beautiful path. Your insights might be exactly what another creative soul needs to hear right now.
